CELEBRATING INDIANA ARTISTS
We want to show the world all that Hoosiers can do.
The Indianapolis Airport Authority created the Celebrating Indiana Artists digital initiative in 2020 to honor the legacy of iconic Hoosiers across a variety of artistic backgrounds. The first two artists featured were authors and Indianapolis natives Kurt Vonnegut and Mari Evans. This program serves to showcase the culture, tastes, and talents of Indiana and welcomes the traveling public with some of our most influential ambassadors of the city and state.

Legendary Playwright and Composer
Cole Porter and Wes Montgomery are two of Indiana’s most innovative and recognizable musicians. One of the first theatre composers to also write lyrics, Cole’s playful lyricism and sophisticated, toe-tapping melodies took the theater and film world by storm in the early 20th century and are still beloved today. Wes is known as one of three “Founding Fathers” of jazz guitar, inventing a distinctive style of playing the guitar using his thumbs. Wes’ improvisational style and ability to collaborate with musicians from a variety of genres led to mainstream success all over the world.
